Review: Soulmate? by playwright Philly Weeden
Cleveland, Ohio native Philly Weeden presented his touring production Soulmate? to a packed house in Indianapolis, Indiana at the historical Anthanaeum Theatre.
Philly Weeden, solitifying himself as a production power house with a few books Relationship Breakdown Philly Style: Based on Real Life Experiences | The Black Man’s Guide: If You Knew Better, You’d Do Better) a film ( If You Knew Better, You’d Do Better) and a multitude of stage plays. Soulmate starring Taral Hicks as Sabrina costarring Alvin Frazier as William; featuring Archie Berwick, Tiffany Allison and Makeda Grier while humorous, did not fall short of positive undertones.
While on a pursuit for love, William has to face fears of being confident and accepted, while taking advice from his Uncle Ralph. Upon landing love with Sabrina issues of trust arrive stemming from her past that keeps her living with a “dying secret”. This production leads you down a path of understanding what ingredients are combined when seeking your soulmate; unconditional love, trust, understanding and mutual respect.
Despite a few minor technical difficulties, the live band enhanced the scene transitions and assisted with dynamic vocal selections by both Taral Hicks and Makeda Grier.
Philly Weeden will be continuing the tour of Soulmate? in February 2017 kicking it of in Atlanta, Georgia.
